ICM FIT-TEST

ICM would like to be at the forefront of future requirements. We have therefore developed a concept where we conduct tests with the help of our customers so that they are sure which respiratory protective equipment would provide them with the adequate protection.

All masks are assigned a protection factor on the basis of a laboratory test, which are conducted after the guidelines of an EN standard. However, this factor is calculated and can not be obtained in practice, due to the fact that facial contours, movenment, beard and so on affect the density.

DId you know, thAT...

USA and England for years have demanded that all users go through an individual fit-test with the respiratory protective equipment they use? Multiple European countries have started to enforce fit-test demands as well. It is mandatory in France and Sweden if you work with asbestos. Furthermore, upcoming ISO standards will make fit-tests compulsory in all of Europe.

The machine – what does it do?

We have invested in a PortaCount machine –  one of the only two approved machines for the purpose. It measures the number of particles in the sorroundings and compares it to the number of particles inside the mask. This way it provides an excact fit-factor, thus, each individual employee knows what protection they can expect from their respiratory protection equipment.

Furthermore, our PortaCount machine can show the actual live fit-factor, which means that we can show the user how to adjust the equipment correctly and e.g. show the size of the leakage which appears, when you cough, laugh or bump the mask into something.

HOW does it work?

Our consultants test your employees at your own company address. You show up in intervals during the day. Each test takes between 25 and 30 minutes - depending on the outcome of the test. The user must wear his or her own respiratory protection equipment and do a number of exercises to trigger a leakage.

A fit-test is a test but it also works as guidance in how to use the protective equipment correctly. This way we ensure the protection of the employees and support the employer's duty to instruct his or her staff.

After the test a certificate is received, so the company can document to the authorities that all employees have been given correctly fitted respiratory protection equipment. The test is objective and can be executed on all types of masks.

CASE DYRUP

Dyrup wanted to ensure the best possible protection of their employees, when they work with different products and processes. They contacted ICM for the purpose of getting their 50 employees in production tested. In collaboration with ICM, Dyrup started by conducting an orientation meeting to inform all employees about the project and explain what the test implied. Not all people care for having a bag put over their head, and the meeting provided them with the oppertunity to ask questions. Then the needed time was assigned to execute all tests. The results were entered in individual certificats - this way, the Security Officers now have the full overview of who can and may wear what masks.
